Welcome Home, a Bronze by Anita Lafford at Fleetwood, Lancashire
Todays blog image is inspired by yesterday blog and image by Debbie Smyth https://travelwithintent.com/2019/05/08/where-to-go/
Debbie theme was to inspire us to travel to places new, places we have never been to, a sentiment that I have tried to aspire to. But whilst it is always nice to travel it is also nice to return home.
But for many of Fleetwood Trawler Men who set off to fish the North Atlantic and Icelandic waters returning home was more than just a welcome relief.
But for those left anxiously waiting at home, it was an even bigger relief. Word would go out across the town, that ships had been sighted heading for Fleetwood Port. Families would head to the waterfront even more anxious to see if their loved ones ship was amongst them.
This beautiful detailed Bronze by Anita Lafford is a tribute to both those who risked their lives at sea and to those who could only wait…and hope to Welcome them Home.
