Moody Monday…. and Back Home!

I really have no excuse to feel moody after two weeks in Northern Norway enjoying some fantastic sunny weather (well all but one day which was admittedly rather grey).

There were many highlights on this trip but I guess it is the Aurora Borealis that topped the list.  It was also a real first… we set off late in the evening. 10 of us squashed in a mini bus with a knowledgeable local guide chasing the Northern Lights.

Our driver and guide took us to Sorfjorden in the Stordalstrand area and with a back drop of the Lyngsalpan (Lyngen Alps) we were let loose with our cameras. The Aurora Borealis played their part and put on a great display….so good that we were more mesmerised by the beauty of the light show that our cameras were very much a secondary interest….. here are a few more images I managed to record…

I have never had the opportunity to photograph the Aurora before, so it was very much trial and error but also fun.  But as it was well past my bedtime I am rather pleased with what we did capture.  As for the cold…well we didn’t notice that.

More Norway pics to come, as there was so much to capture, it will take a time to sort and edit them all. At least I will be able to rekindle some great memories of beautiful locations.

    1. You bet we were lucky…sunshine, blue skies. One morning we woke to an early morning fog at Tromso, but that cleared, one day of bright overcast cloud and then less than 30 minutes of rain as we left Leknes. Lucky…YES 🙂

    1. Not sure I did the display justice….our guide who was a Northern Lights Geek reckoned it was one of the 5 best displays he had seen. I should have filmed the display as the speed of change was just constant. Look one way and behind you there was another display….I also failed to capture several shooting starts and one meteorite breaking up. 🙂

      2. Ahh, but look at what you DID manage to get and for a first timer they look fantastic. Fancy just being there if your guide said it was one of the best he’d seen!

  11. Yes indeed a cracking show, on solid land with some great foreground interest perfect. It is my only regret seeing it from a ship aint the same. The best view we had was at berth in Trondheim harbour but even on a huge boat at berth still some movement. Moreover I know no what I am doing with these shots. So only one solution – I vwill have to back solo 😅 so no distractions.

    1. I booked a trip with on a mini bus. 10 plus guide and driver. Headed off to where the guide thought we would have the clearest sky. Spot on. He said the lights would arrive at about 12.30 and last for an hour. They did. Before I left the UK I spoke with a couple of folk who have lead tours there. They said it was trial and error….set the ISO to 2500. Widest angle lens you have on widest aperture. turn off auto focus and vibration. Daylight balance. try between 10 and 20 secs and see what you get. Of the shots on the blog the more static display were about 12 secs… the wider floating displays about 20secs. You can only try and see as it is all pot luck. The Company was Tromso Safari and can recommend
