Spring moves along…. as does the Clock

The signs of spring are everywhere, still a little slow getting off the mark, but it heading in the right direction…..  a direction that is marked by the changing of the clocks tonight.

British Summer time is back so the clocks go forward one hour tonight.  The sacrifice is that we loose one hour but gain the start of lighter evenings….

An Often Forgotten Old English Hall…..

March-1_017-(2)

Staunton Harold Hall and Parish Church, Leicestershire

The Hamlet of Staunton Harold which soon became the Estate of Staunton Harold is one of the oldest of England’s Family Homes.  The Shirley Ferrers family played some significant, complicated and at time checked role in history of England, English Nobility and Royalty.  Far too complicated to narrate in this short blog (but a google search will help).

In recent time the Halls history has seen it change from a Leonard Cheshire Home for Disabled and Injured Members of the forces (after WW2) back to a family home and a large well manged Estate of some 2000 acres. The old Stable Block is now a Craft Centre and is adjacent to a rather good Plant Nursery.

The Hall, as so many such idyllic locations can offer facilities for Weddings, but apart from that it is not one of Leicestershire’s  ‘Stately Homes’ open for general visitation. But the woodland and countryside offer some great walks.

The old Parish Church is now in the care of the National Trust and is open at weekends for visits..

But that is a pleasure we will have to leave on hold for a couple of months at least
