A Great Start to May…..

Those April showers we enjoyed over the last days of April, have certainly revived our greenery.  Second day of May and normal sunny service has returned.

It still seems strange not to see that many folk about, particularly when the weather is so good. This was 11am in our local Park…true there were some folk about but more often than not you could pause look about and see no one.

Whilst the foliage is just bursting forth, this mature Beech is very slow getting off the mark.  It is only overnight that the first buds seem to be swelling ready to leaf.

The Oak , even this young one, march on into spring….

The Bluebells are fading across the woods…. but you can still find lone groups keeping the flag flying…

May will bring an ever more rapid change to woods, gardens and meadows. It should be a pleasure to watch and perhaps it  will make up for some of the discomfort of the turbulent times in which we now live.

A Grand Day Out……

Kew-21.6

The Palm House

The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew

It is that time of year when we plan those ‘great days out’.  Not this year by the looks of things.  Those great days out often go together with great locations.

Kew Botanical Gardens is very much one of those special places where you can spend the day and leave knowing there was even more to explore…so a return trip would be needed.

The rather grand ‘Palm House’ is one of my favourites in the Gardens.  It may well be that you enter from an English Garden… but then you move directly into the humidity of a Rain Forest.

Great Days Out will come back…..meantime I am glad we have made many memories.
