Big Wood , Allestree
Well, after the storms of gales force winds and heavy rain, Saturday was very much quieter. Still some gusty wind, much colder but some lovely sunshine filtering down, casting dappled shadows across the woodland floor. It was also nice to be out without a waterproof. I was also surprised to find very little wind damage. No big trees down, but of course lots of leaves, acorns and small branches littering the ground.
Migrations has well and truly started for our small summer visitors, but enough still remain providing some welcome birdsong across the wood. It is also that time of the year when autumn approaches and once again the majesty of the tree trunks come back into profile, every one different.
It may be crumbling but the old Gardeners Cottage behind the old empty Hall, still has a sort of welcome to it, beckoning someone to lavish some love upon it…. sad to see it so neglected, like the Hall itself.
The sun did not stay with us all day, nice whilst it lasted, but soon more dark clouds approached. So far no more rain, though there is a definite threat in the clouds. Dark reflections in the Lake and the wind raising some ripples again.
Have a good weekend whatever you have planned but….
