Flippant Friday…… Lockdown Humour

PC-OUT

Possibly, like many other folk, I have been spending some lockdown moments sorting through boxes and files.  One of those boxes, has some of my Post Card Collection….. I say collection but in truth they are not that well organised (is catalogued the right word ?).  Nor am I getting very far, spending far too much time pondering on rediscovered finds… here are two of the ‘finds’ to share with you.

The Post Card above, I thought was rather appropriate in the current times of restriction in which we live. It is the creation of the Artist Phil May (1864-1903).  May gathered his inspiration  in the late Victorian era and is often defined as the Artist responsible for the ‘Modern’ Humorous Caricature Cartoons.  This and the image below were published by Raphael Tuck & Sons early 1900’s.  As was Tucks marketing style, the importance and skill of the Artist, was marked by producing these cards as ‘Limited’ Editions.

Right now, as lockdown continues, I imagine many of us would share the thought expressed below…

I hope they brought a smile to your faces this Friday morning.

  1. Oh, yes, of course you may get out! In spirit! The situation from a cell (well put) is not different to a sailor on a tanker, confined to the ship for months on end with nothing but blue oceans and the horizon, but again – the spirit and the dreams live on. A dream, wish, thought, memory, spirit can never ever be locked down!
That is why people may survive practically anything fate throws at us! And you know that as well, David?

  2. Like you, I’ve been going through items stashed away and organizing or eliminating. Gosh, those post cards of yours are neat and just go to show you, some things are relatively timely no matter how old they may be.

  3. We’ve been sorting too. Our problem is we’ve lived in the same house for way too long! We used to move (and clean out the excess) every two years.
Lock down has given us lots of time to entertain ourselves with what we have and get rid of what we don’t need.
