The end of another Month…. Goodbye June

_DOI6121qqq

You know its summer when the Sweet Pea’s come into flower.  The last day of June…..  what is it they say “Flaming June”.  Well, its had its moments.

After the strange spring and odd weather cycle the plants both in the countryside and in our more protected gardens are still trying to catch up.

It is only this week that we can recognise the colours of summer in any abundance, nice to see and nice to smell those aromas of summer…..

1st of July tomorrow….so it can only get better (can’t it?)

The year does progress but all is still not well, so…..

A rather mellow Moorland……

_DOI5954qqq

Stanton Moor, Derbyshire

For many, the word Moor, conjures up a picture of a wild wind blown environment always open to the elements. Stanton Moor is all that.  A plateau above the surrounding countryside, heather and bracken clad.  But it is also a little different from many Moors.  Silver Birch grace areas towards the edges , bare in the winter but rich and green from spring through summer.

Then around the surrounding stone boulder covered slopes, are covered by the wizened shapes of the upland Oak, short in stature and bent to the shape of its surrounds, offering tantalising views over the valley below.

Tranquil in June… but on a winters day it is a very different world.  You could say a Moor for all seasons 🙂

High or Low, wherever you are….

Moody Monday…… Dark Clouds Move In

Scotland

Shieldaig,  Wester Ross, West Highlands of Scotland

Dark clouds head in from Gairloch heading toward the mountains that surround the village of Shieldaig.   A peaceful spot, to the north and west of the Torridon Mountains.  A Hotel, a jetty, a farm and a few cottages, all overlooking Loch Shieldaig and the Islands beyond…

what more could one want.
