It has not been a bad November…….

November has been rather kind to us…. true we have ‘enjoyed’ a severe Storm over this last weekend but that said the Month has rather excelled.  We have had some autumn colour but for the most part its has been a green extension of the season.

In our small corner of the UK we have also had a rare visit of snow, only a little dusting compared with other areas.

What made the morning magical was an overnight frost plus a minus 5c temperature… sealing the snow to the trees.  The sun did try from the very start to break through the clouds, eventually succeeding for a short spell round lunchtime.

The Lake, surprisingly free from Ice, still looked differently  cheerful with it surrounding coat of snow…

But the star of the show as always is the venerable Furlong Oak….. a stark skeleton against the morning sky, the few leaves it sports catching and holding tight to the snow for a while longer

Over tonight the snow will vanish……  will it return? who knows.  Our past few winters have been surprisingly snow free.  Maybe this year things will change.

Rain or Shine, Snow or Storms…… we will get, what we get given, and please…

Moody Monday……. A Redundant Industrial Site

An abandoned Gritstone Millstone in Padley Gorge, Derbyshire.

A quiet wooded Derbyshire Gorge.  One – time it would be far from a quiet location.  One of many working stone cutting quarries initially shaping random gritstone boulders in to valuable Millstones and grinding wheels. Technology moved on and the need dried up and a once very valuable industry died.

Moody Monday, woody November weather but please still..

Silent Sunday…. A Church in Autumn

The Parish Church of Sortland, Nordland, Norway

Autumn has rather passed us by this year.  So I though this shot from 2019, of the White Church in Sortland, surrounded by autumn colour was the most fitting for the last Sunday of November.

I hope you have a peaceful Sunday……

Cees Black & White Photo Challenge – Horns

Sometimes you get lucky when photographing Red Stags… this particular day it all worked out well. So when i heard that this weeks Cees BWC was Horns, I though I would post this image.

Now this Red Stag was wild, heading towards the rutting season… yet he was much more placid than the next two encounters…

Billy-Goat-Gruff BW

Billy Goat Gruff was his name and nature.

I am sure you must have some great images for the challenge so give it a go.  Cees Blog site with details is on this link:-

Have fun but as always….

It could be the Calm before the Storm

Shardlow, Trent and Mersey Canal, Derbyshire

Early morning sun on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Shardlow.  But the sun did little to ease the cold….it was the coldest morning so far this winter.  Till now, November has been a benign month. As for autumn, well if you blinked over the past week you would have missed it.

Now the Met Forecasters tell us we have sever storms heading our way, so this truly could be the “calm before the storm”.

So this was a day to enjoy a winter walk along part of this historic canal..

The sun never did warm up the day but we were not complaining …. just great to be out
