Mid November on Stanton Moor, Derbyshire

November has been rather kind to us weather wise, a welcome relief after a very wet October.  Not that the weather has been perfect….. its been a little like the Curates Egg – Good in Parts. Those good parts have mainly been in the mornings.  Plenty of blue skies and sunshine, even the thermometer has been at respectable levels.  Come lunchtime the weather changes back to cloud and drab grey.

But the mornings have been just great to get out and about so this week we headed to Stanton Moor. The definition of a ‘moor’ brings to mind somewhere rather bleak and windswept.  Indeed Stanton Moor can be wild in parts and at time fits that description well, but it also has a softer side.

Stanton Moor isn’t unique, but there are few moors that are surrounded by ancient Oak and then play host to Silver Birch glades…  all of course surrounded by Heather and Bracken.  In autumn the Heather and Bracken have lost their colour and now brown. 

At a time when we are encouraged to take more exercise and enjoy the outdoors there are few place that are much better, so enjoy a tramp across and around the moor with me…

A moor of contrasting vista’s..

The day ran to the current weather pattern.  Early afternoon the clouds had arrived, and the mood and character of the moor changed again….

So back to home fully refreshed a little leg weary but otherwise the batteries had been recharged.
