A Lindisfarne Time Line

This piece of Beach Sculpture on the foreshore of Holy Island, Northumberland is probably only a few days old.  Beyond this are some much older markers of time on this historic island. The Lime Kilns date to the early 1800, behind it is Lindisfarne Castle.  Whilst the present day castle only dates back to 1903, when the famous Edward Lutyens started work on reconstructing the castle for Edward Hudson the famous founder of Country Life as a summer home, there are record of a fortress here in the mid 1500.  But in the village beyond the Castle are the even older remains of Lindisfarne Priory founded by St. Aidan in 635.
