We have known this Red Deer Stag for many years. We have visited Arrisdale regularly when walking in the Knoydart and Kintail area of West Scotland.
Here on Corran Beach on the shore of Loch Hourn is a very welcome Tea Room (well it’s a shed really) that provides a welcome brew and some great cakes. I don’t know the Stags name but after his days of wandering Druim Fada and Beinn nan Caorach were over he has spent his later years in life ‘tourist’ watching; I think he enjoyed it and our dogs never gave him caused for concern.
We didn’t make it to Arrisdale this last year so were late to hear that the poor old boy had to be shot. Seemingly he became a bit to friendly and also developed a love for the cakes (who can blame him!)………a great shame as he will be remembered by many and greatly missed by us.

Well there’s an incentive not to become too friendly in Arrisdale! 🙂
Lovely capture David, He looks so relaxed.

I suppose you have to admit that if he hadn’t resorted to becoming a tourist attraction after his rutting days were over he would probably have been shot quite a few years earlier! So may be he did get the best out of life.

This is amazing! What a handsome animal and beautiful scenery! This would look great enlarged and displayed over a fireplace. Sad he had to be shot.
