A Boat of Distinction….

Canal Boat May CoverIt isn’t even April  and yet the news vendors stands are filling up with May issue magazines already….never understood why publishers have to be so far ahead of the calendar… but they are.  CANAL BOAT Magazine is no exception and the May issue is now on sale.  The cover image is of the narrowboat Nb.YARWOOD and rather sleek looking tug style boat built by Barnowl Boats.  I have had the pleasure of photographing the ‘Review’ boats for Canal Boat for some 14 years but this last year decided to take a break so it was nice to be invited back for this rather individual and such a good looking boat. 

Take a closer look at that cover shot and you will see what I mean about good looking, sparkling in what was February sunshine on a very cold day.

No matter how many boats I have reviewed, I am still amazed at the ingenuity used to maximise the limited width available to any designer (less than 7ft).  The Saloon does take my fancy, colourful, light, cosy and above all comfortable with Tiffany Lights and Leather Arm Chairs that immediate gave me the feeling of  being very much at home.

The Galley also leaves you in no doubt that the ‘inner man’ will be equally well catered for……….Nb. YARWOOD

The creativity for the boats interior layout is down to owners Lesley and Joe Kimantas,  It is their second boat so there experience of living on a narrowboat has proved valuable. You can read all about life on board at Lesley’s blog( http://nbyarwood.blogspot.co.uk/).

  1. these canal boats fascinating me always… I watched on BBC documentary programs too and also I was in Devizes last summer (but I didn’t have a chance for sail I just watched them)…. Should be sailed one day… Thank you David, I loved your protographs… with my love, nia

    1. If you get the chance…take it. You will enjoy it. Although I knoe lots of folk who have given up there houses and now live on board permanently, cruising from one spot to another, I have to admit that that is not for me. Sounds idyic and the boats are just superb with all the comforts of the best of homes so you don’t ruff it…..but I will stick with my 4 walls!

  4. I like these photos. They show a lifestyle that I would like to experience. The boat itself is a marvel, never having seen inside one before, ‘tho I did know about the canal system in England. Inside the appointments are…well-appointed… and stylish! Great design.
