Carla and Buster say ‘Thank You’…..November the 5th has past and a weekend of bonfires and fireworks has passed without undue stress of bangs and flashes that have marked the event in previous years. It does seem that common sense and restraint has been shown this year. May be it is also shows that folk do not have money to burn. Whatever the reason, what had become a week of stress for the dogs and irritation to us has passed. It was still fun, colourful displays, great sprays from the rockets but thankfully none of the war zone bangs that had come to mark the ‘celebrations’. So we will say ‘Remember, Remember the 5th of November, gunpowder…. and this year reason and sense’. With a big woof woof of thanks from Carla and Buster.![]()
Note:
For overseas readers let me explain. Bonfire Night, the 5th November marks the failed attempt by Guy Fawkes, on the 5th November in 1605, to blow up Parliament and the government of the day. Still not sure if we are celebrating his failure or the fact that Fawkes had tried to change the political scene.
Celebrations centre on bonfires and firework displays. There is also a nursery rhyme that goes like this….
“ Remember, remember the 5th of November,
Gunpowder, Treason and Plot”
6th November
How lovely to see the dogs in that wonderful landscape. Dogs and bonfire is a very bad combination, so it is good to hear they did well..

Lovely photo! 😀 We noticed how quiet it’s been this year too, although the factory up the road will be laying on their firework spectacular for their staff next weekend as usual. Luckily for us, Putney’s the only one who takes issue with fireworks – but then he takes issue with anyone or anything that disturbs his forty winks! (Unless he’s being woken up for food, of course!)

I was hoping there would be a display on the docks this weekend, but alas there wasn’t.

Thanks for the explanation; I saw this mentioned somewhere else and didn’t know what it was about. Hugs to Carla and Buster.

Carla and Buster look as if they’ve survived the ordeal, again! Yes, we’ve heard of Guy Fawkes but don’t celebrate it here. I think it’s a celebration because he failed! Perhaps it’s time to forget, it was so long ago…. ;o)
