Seasons Greetings ……..One and All

Christmas-Greetings-Ash-in-Snow

It is the weekend before Christmas and no doubt many of you will be busy with all those pre-holiday preparations.  I just hope it is all not too hectic or stressful and that in the end you and yours enjoy the celebrations you have planned.  But perhaps more importantly I wish you all a Peaceful New Year. Peace is something,  that for some, seems a long way away…but I still hope that common sense will soon apply and indeed peace be something we can all enjoy.

Earlier this month I posted here some of my Victorian Christmas Cards.  I was pleased with the positive feedback and enquires, so here is one more to celebrate this time of Year…….

Carol-Singers

Carol Singers were once a traditional part of the  pre Christmas festivities, very much part of the community sharing the  spirit of goodwill as they went from door to door, entertaining in a simple way in the hope of a little reward of perhaps a few pennies in a hat or simply just a Minced Pie and a cheery Thank You.  They are now few and far between – a shame.

(The above card was published by Raphael Tuck of London, designed in London but printed at their Fine Art works in Bavaria. Date some where between 1890 and 1908)

For our Family each Christmas is special for one reason or another.  This year it is special as it will be our youngest Grandchild’s first Christmas.  Yes, Ewan is now 9 months old, growing fast and now crawling everywhere…..

None to sure who is keeping an eye on who, at the moment Buster likes to keep a close eye on Ewan, he also  is wary of just what Ewan might get up to!

P.S.

Thank you all for your comments over the year.  But also a special thanks to those who thought it worth dropping an email to seek more information or to express more private thoughts….I have really enjoyed reading, replying and I hope in some instances helping folk who are miles away and up until I started the bog complete strangers…..Thank you all.

  1. Hi, David –

Yes, ‘common sense’ seem to come very expensive these days? And it’s kind to understand that when a stray bullet take your little child away, or when a car bomb blows your house to pieces, hate will replace any amount of common sense. And it’s real hard!

But I do agree: There is only one way through that will lead to lasting peace – or a peaceful co-existance, if you will: Forgiveness!

The ability to accept fate, draw a line, forgive and forget! Words like ‘vendetta’ and revenge must be abolished. Easy to say, harder to do, but the only way!

In Palestine they have been throwing rocks, now rockets, after each other for more than 70 years! Look where it’s got them. Thousands of people has died, many of them children, damages by the billions but no lasting solutions. You’d think man would be able to show intelligence enough to try something else?
Now we are seeing a similar development in Syria. How many shall die before sombody get the idea?

People have to sit down at the same table and show a wilingness to solve a problem, not fighting to get as much as possible! Take Palestine: The problem came back in 1948, and it’s a bit late to correct the history, right or wrong as it may have been to some . . .

Today Palestine and Israel should merge into one country! All be given the same nationality, the same rights to move, one currency, live, work and speak their mind in elections. Very soon you could not fire rockets without hitting your own people, and there would be nobody bombing your infrastructure. Yes hard, but the only wau to peace!

Germany and France did it? After WW II it would have been easy to kindle the fire and keep on fighting through terrorism, economic weapons, but they didn’t! And ther has been a long lasting peace in Europe!

    1. We have so called progressed through the ages yet understanding of others seems even further away and as for common sense that gets lost somewhere along the way. You express the situation well….perhaps one day forgiveness will happen.

  2. Thanks David and Happy Seasons Greetings to you and your loved ones. As you probably have noticed I’m not the most active in commenting but I really appreciate your work.

  4. The Christmas Carollers would be something wonderful to experience, as it doesn’t happen here, and yes, ’tis a shame. I’m one for a sense of community, sorely lacking here, in my view, and especially where I live, a huge complex of apartments. Thank you for all your most interesting blogposts throughout the year, this one included. Have the merriest of Christmases, and, yes, let’s hope the 2013 year is much more stable all-round. All the best, see ya next year! :O)
