Spring Hope’s Dashed……then Resurrected

Two days of sunshine, whilst still being bitterly cold, did give one the hope that spring was about to start.  So it was a bit of a blow to wake this morning to another covering of snow…….

AS2

It was a relatively deep covering where the wind caught it and blew it into the edge of the hedgerow but for the most part it was only a dusting and soon melted. Not to say that the rest of the day was any real improvement in outlook……….

AS4

The skeleton of a ‘Blasted Oak’ stands stark against stormy skies, caught in a fleeting splash of sunshine.  The landscape still looks as if it is in the depths of winter and very far from spring.

Even our sheltered garden is more reminiscent of a December day, grey, and barren.  the Snowdrop’s and crocus that had struggled to flower have now faded and shrivelled, the daffodils that had started to shoot still have barely formed buds, unenthusiastic about entering the new world.  The only very slight glimmer of hope are a small clump of Primula that have forced there way through the barren ground….

AS5

Bright as they may be they do little to provide confidence that the weather will change.  Nor is the Met Office providing much comfort….7 to 10 more days of sub zero temperatures before the wind direction changes and temperatures will climb to seasonal averages…so don’t expect a heat wave, more than likely April Showers.

  1. It’s coming! It’s coming…. next Sunday we expect in the Low Countries wind from the SOUTH WEST with ‘normal temperatures of around 10-12º. In the week following this should get better and better and slowly make it’s wat further North and spread also over England.
The not so nice things of SW winds is rain en probably gales, but they at least announce the REAL spring.
