Loco No.87. NG/G 16 Class
Spotted this engine on the Welsh Highland Railway, North Wales. It has just arrived at Porthmadog on the scenic route from Caernarfon. You change trains here if you want to travel onwards to Ffestiniog on the old Slate Quarry Railway.
For the railway buffs, the engine was built in 1936 by Cockerill’s in Belgium on a 2-6-2+2-6-2 configuration. It’s early year’s were spent on South African Natal Railways. On retirement it was brought back to the U.K. by railway enthusiasts and spent some time on Exmoor.
No.87 is now living a new life , after major refurbishment, on the recently reopened Welsh Highland Line.
A clue can be seen also be Porthmadog’s importance in an earlier life. The large “Customs House” was very fitting for what was a busy North Wales Slate Port.
As to the image…..well I have just played about with it a bit.
( “THE ODD BOX”. The Odd Box , is especially for Odds and Ends, it is the file where I drop those images, that I have not processed earlier in the year as part of a series or project or simply lacked time at that moment, where they can be safely stored. I can then go back to them at leisure, explore and see what surprises await)
