Better Late….than Never

Snowflakes in April ….!

Snowflake-2

I am not sure of the botanical name but we call them Snowflakes.

It is one of the Spring flowers we always look forward to seeing.  Checking my diary they appeared in mid March last year….this year like many other plants they seem to be working on a very different time table to the norm and now only just appearing.

Don’t confuse with Snowdrops (which are long gone)….Snow Flakes are clusters of white flower with green tinges. they appear atop long stems varying from 12 to 15inches tall and surrounded by leaves much like daffodils.   Late they may be….but just as welcome.

  1. Gd afternoon, David. Can this help you? I found a Latin name on a Dutch site: Leucojum Vernum or Leucojum Aestivem. From this family: Amaryllidaceae (narcissus).

    1. Thanks….Bing lead me to the RHS listing under Leucojum and gives it the common name of ‘Summer Snowflake’ ….so I guess our family name of Snowflakes was not far wrong (-:
