Rain is forecast for today…..
The Glenfinnan Monument, Loch Shiel, West Highlands of Scotland
Nothing new there then, if we are kind, we could say the last few weeks have been ‘mixed’.
But there is one place we have visited on many occasions where for us the sun never shines. I know there are lots of images of this very dramatic spot basking in glorious sunshine with rich blue skies…..but for us never. At the best we can say the weather has always been ‘soft’
The location is Loch Shiel where the Glenfinnan Tower stands dramatically at the head of the Loch surrounded by mountains. It is also a notably historic location. It is here in 1745 the the Jacobite Rising really started in earnest when ‘Bonnie Prince Charlie’ came ashore and raised the Jacobite colours. History tells of the bloody and fateful end to his campaign but its start is commemorated here where this Monument was built in 1815 to mark the spot for ever.
Perhaps one day I will be able to mark my visit with the chance to capture the dramatic Glen in some more clement weather…maybe even sunshine

Very interesting facts, David. The photograph is awesome. I imagine coming to the end of a long journey in a Tolkien novel to live out my days. Of course I slayed the dragon!

There were still plenty about that day….the rain didn’t seem to deter them just perhaps helped them stick to the skin 😞
