A Distinct Change…..in the Weather!

Beacon Fell, Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire

Rain overnight gave way to a morning of stormy clouds being driven across the horizon

by strong gusty winds that shake the leaves from the trees…..add a marked drop in temperature which had me shaking to the very core…..yes, you have to acknowledge that Autumn is changing.

I have to admit that there was a tad improvement in the weather as the day went by…

Despite the warm colours where autumn was making its distinctive mark there was still a cold look to the moorlands that surround Beacon Fell.

The Beacon is noticeably the highest point above Charnwood Forest.

With the Forests of Leicestershire to one side and the River plains of Derbyshire and Nottingham on the other.  Even on a day like today it commanded great views over the surrounding  landscape

It is here, high on Beacon Fell were a rocky outcrop of Pre- Cambrian rock breaks through the surface.

In there own small way these rocks have added indirectly to the knowledge we all have of our natural world….for it is on these rocks many years ago when the famous Naturalist and Broadcaster Sir David Attenborough was a mere lad, discovered a Fossil.  It was this discovery that fired his enthusiasm for our living world.  His enthusiasm and interpretive skills have gone on to inspire many of us to take a closer look at the living world all about us.
