The Cathedral of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, Zelenogorsk, Russia
Hidden away within a forest setting, Zelenogorsk Cathedral comes as a big surprise. It is indeed an Ornate building, a structure that present a building of cascading levels. A white exterior, toped with copper green domes and a multitude of gold crosses presents an ornate yet a dignified appearance.
But step in side to visit the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan and pow… you are hit by an over powering audacious highly ornate interior.

We were also blessed with a sudden but short burst of morning sunshine that just added to the wondrous and slightly overpowering glitter of gold, brass and gilt.
I think you can say ‘Ornate’ is the word and I hope you like this contribution to this weeks photo challenge ( https://dailypost.wordpress.com/photo-challenges/ornate/ )

You have described this building perfectly David – ornate yet dignified, very stately – and inside, an ornate extravagance. The light you have captured in the first photo really shows off this stately church. excellent choice for this weeks photo challenge.

This really has the “Wow!” factor, David. I’ve never been to Russia. I really hope I can go there one day to see such ornate examples of their amazing architecture. 🙂

I have only visited the area around St. Petersburg but very well worth it. Lots to see and experience. We visited whilst on a cruise (on a small cruise boat so that was able moor right in the centre) and had 3 days which was not enough to see everything but enough to give a real flavour of the city and surrounds along the Gulf of Finland .
