Bluebell Wood

Natural Wild English Bluebells are now starting to carpet the woodland floor.  For a short while they bring a colourful uplift to the spirits after the long winter months.

Not to be out done this Easter our local Garden Centre is doing its bit to reflect the colours of Easter and encourage us to get planting our gardens ready for summer…

The Magnolia flower is at its best this month.    Sadly wind and rains soon destroy these  deceptive fragile but rather unique flowers with their distinctive upturned leaves and streaks of colour…

  3. Sun’s out here as well. Even tho temperatures are way too low and we can expect sleat and even real snow and more strong winds. After all, my friend from Hunmanby just told me that when the Blackthorn blooms it’s always cold. She also told me that this very old shrub in English history (probably here as well) and the druids agree: http://www.druidry.org/library/trees/tree-lore-blackthorn
    I see the use in hedges around places where they don’t want nosy kids of all ages. Very effective! 😀
    We do have some small places with blue bells but leave it to the Dutch to not like them well enough. I am truly sorry that we seem to have lost a great memory of all that makes us, humans, happy in nature.

  4. Great photos David. You almost forget how bright and fresh the colours of Spring are after the drab colours of late autumn and winter. And it seems to happen so fast too. Nice to have warmer days and longer hours too.

      1. It was lovely yesterday – I was out on Grassington moor at 7am and the sun was warm and the day bright. Didn’t even have a coat on 🙂 Probably won’t last though…
