Another Old Man…..

The weather at the moment is pretty awful across the U.K. But even so we here count our blessings as many areas of the country are well and truly under flood water…there lives in turmoil.

Not the time to be gallivanting about unless you really have to. So I have been reflecting on brighter days. One of those days was a coastal walk round the Assynt Peninsula and area more noted for its Mountain walks.  But  this particular day was one of a number of uncharacteristic hot days for Scotland, so a walk along the coast with a fair sea breeze was welcome.  How time flies as it was months ago…….but it only seems like yesterday.

The Old Man of Stour was the objective a rock pinnacle or Stack that stands just off the majestic sea cliffs of Assynt…..

Disc One

But as seems to be way on the Scottish Coast whilst hot and sunny the breeze always seems to whip up the seas. The Old Man is also a magnet for rock climbers, look closely and you will spot one soloing the stack.  It is not a pastime I am tempted to return to….age brings just a little more common sense (I think).

As for memories, well I can now smell the sea, feel the breeze and the warmth of the sun, recall the spring of the cliff top grass and recall the picnic with just seabirds and views for company.  Even the dogs were content to just sit and stare.
