North American readers will probably be familiar with and recognise the Red-Crested Pochard…but for us over here in the U.K. it is indeed a rare site. It is not a native species of this part of the world but some have existed in private collections and ornamental lakes.
Just occasionally they make a break for freedom, escapees we call them. This particular Male is a handsome character in full mating plumage. Perhaps his testosterone is high and that is why he is on the loose….in the hope of, well you know what!
He does look resplendent with not a feather out of place, so I thought it only right and proper to nick name him “Pretty Boy”
