BLUEBELLS in Derbyshire
It has been in many ways a great spring here in Derbyshire. Warm and very little rain. What was a slow start to the season has turned into a rush with so many flowers bursting into life. The Bluebells are very early this year but they are neither as big, or the carpet displays as bold, significantly they are not last as long. No sooner than the flowers bloom than the leaves are falling back. Short stems, drooping leaves is, I suspect, as a result of both the warmth and the lack of water. It may also be that the tree canopy which has magically flourished is also restricting the light to the woodland floor sooner than normal. Still let’s enjoy them whilst we can and like all things in nature we have to accept and be very grateful for what we get given.
