It was really great to-day to get up on the Moors, first time for many weeks, so it was refreshing to see that the heather now cloaked the moors. Fresh green Bracken still forced its way through the purple whilst the Bilberry bushes, now that there fruit has gone, have started to turn brown and red.
The Moor in question is Stanton Moor, near Birchover, Derbyshire. Whilst not the biggest expanse of moor by along way it still gives you that feeling of being on top of the world with clear views to an horizon that encircles you. Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham and the Midlands can all be seen on clear days. The proximity of these conurbations makes you realise just why the Peak District is so well visited.
The Heather is just about at its best right now, so if you want to enjoy the smell of the blossom, hear the Bees bussing as they gather the nectar, you better make it quick!
I never knew heather was so beautiful!
