Like a giant claw the roots of this Scots Pine are hanging onto life on the shore of a Scottish Loch. Hanging on, in there, between deep mountain waters and a heather clad moorland. I am not sure if it is really hanging on to life or reaching down to be swallowed up by the peaty moor to start life’s regeneration process all over again.
The roots of trees, old, new and those in between have always fascinated me. Like fingers on a giant hand they dig down into the earth, grasping and cling to rock faces, drawing up strength for years of vigorous growth yet withstand the might winds that shake the tree’s existence……then gradually as time and weather take there toll the roots remains, like a sculpture in stone, till the very last….or is it a fresh start.
