Touched by Clouds

42-Loch-Morlich,-Glenmore-Forest-Park,-Cairngorm,-Scotland-0368

Loch Morlich at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains.  Nestling within the Glenmore Forest Park.   It is a great approach to the mountains, some of the highest in Scotland with some 4000ft summits….often touched by clouds.

Glorious in the summer, though watch out for midges, and spectacular in winter when the Ski Resort swings into activity.

Coming or Going……

Loch an Eilean, Rothiemurchus, Cairngorms, Scotland

Surrounded by the Rothiemurchus Forest, Loch an Eilean is both tranquil in parts but in others rather a puzzle (well a puzzle for me that is).  Remnants of trees sinking into the dark waters, yet signs that new land is forming along this margin.  Yet the water levels do not appear to be higher than what one would call normal.  Is the Loch filling in or is reclaiming land from the edge of the forest.  What ever, even on a stormy day the Loch is a great location for a peaceful walk, only Crossbills and Red Squirrels for company and some times midges!

A Dreek afternoon on Deeside

Deeside in Rain

Dreek is a Scottish word that ideally sums up those days when the rain and dark skies conspire to make the weather, so the day,  rather miserable.  But just occasionally it is worth braving the rain, to  maybe capture one of those fleeting moments, when the sun does try to break through.  I say try,  more often than not it fails.

But occasionally you get a moment as this one at Braemar on the banks of the River Dee.

Our viewpoint is Arderg, we are looking to the west along the upper Dee valley towards the Forest of Mar, in the shadow of the Cairngorms.

Another memory, even though it was wet, was well worth the experience.  Till another time….
