Bluebells are a little early this year and starting to cover the woodland floor. However that Blue fragrant carpet is not as thick as sumptuous as last season. Some may say that it is because they are early and the best is yet to come but I am none to sure…..
Closer examination shows that we have plenty of foliage, but it is now looking like the foliage after the plant has flowered. Taking a closer look it would seem that the flower bud is missing from the centre of each plant.
May be I am wrong but suspect that we will not have the massed displays of the blue blooms………so what is the good news? Well I suspect that after last years triumphal displays, the bulbs are using this year to make new bulb growth. So if I am right, watch out next year.

That’s what I found in the woods near me. I went back this week in case I had been too early but there were no more. Like your photo, it’s still very pretty though!

Yes, I to have been living in hope of a repeat of last year. I have to admit it was specially good last season, best I have ever seen. So may be they do need that rest this year

A beautiful photo. I like the thought that they are resting this year in preparation for a triumphant return next year.

That is the theory…just hope that I am correct.
