Borrowdale Delight

We are currently staying in Borrowdale in Cumbria which is by reputation the wettest place in England.  So when we woke and heard the stories of torrential rain over much of Britain we felt lucky and a trifle smug that the sun shone through our windows.  The morning light brought Manesty Wood to life…..

and on the shores of Derwentwater the day just look fantastic…

The Oak Trees are now rich with leaf welcoming the spring, whilst on the Lake a flock of Barnacle Geese that seem to have forgone the desire to join the annual migration, noisily stretch their wings…….

Wood-Sorrel

Wood Sorrel fight for life on this dead tree trunk that is now covered with moss and lichens…….whilst elsewhere Bracket Fungi grow on an old stump. Signs that winter has been busy in these woods are left on the woodland floor to rot away and continue the cycle of life..

Derwentwater-Skiddaw

But clouds soon gathered over Derwentwater and Skiddaw mountain had once again started to acquire its hat!

From the rocks around this area, Slate has been a major industry over the centuries. Slate for building, roofing and walling but just occasionally for seats…one with a great view the other in a woodland glade

Sun-on-Water

The morning Glow continued but it would soon be a loosing battle……but before the rains come there was still time to enjoy my favourite view of Derwentwater…….and my favourite seat.

I guess tomorrow will be wet……..we will see.
