It might only be a simple and fairly common Peony but this bloom is our first this year and we are proud of it. It has been an odd spring so far or rather it is where we are located in middle England. Spring started with a mini heat wave that followed a mild and dry winter. Then we entered a very cold and wet spell and now it is positively tropical with temperatures of 28C. Plants both wild and cultivated seemed none to sure as to whether they should flower or not. This Peony is for us late yet the Clematis which tends to flower at the same time is well and truly over. In fact, apart from this splash of Red, I would say that the colour in our garden, right now is green……looking on the bright side – than the best is yet to come!
The succulent Houseleek is also fleshing out and over the next few weeks will soon create more cactus like heads.

A humble flower, but as with all flowers, a close look always shows the complication of their construction…..one of the worlds many wonders!
