WET…..and Warm

The constant weather change from one day to next is more unusual than for most summers.   One day heavy rains, the next hot sunshine with high temperatures to match.  This humid climate has worked wonders for the wildflowers on the edge of the woods producing a rich crop of foliage and an even heavier flush of flowers and scent.

Wildflowers-1

Red Campion look worthy of a place in any flower border where no doubt they would be dismissed as a weed…..what is the expression “A weed is just a flower in the wrong place”.

Ivy

Ivy is creeping into every shady nook, climbing the trees in an endeavour to reach the clear skies above. Again judged by many as another threat to the garden you have to take a closer look at its unique beauty and admire its tenacity to survive.

Rhododendron that have enjoyed a great season of floral wonder are still hanging on with just a few blooms providing a das of colour in marked contrast to the green foliage…but perhaps more important providing plenty of pollen for the bees.

Rhododendron-and-Birch

I know that Water Lilies have already been in flower in many parts of the country, but in our local pond they have been reluctant to show.  But at last the first heads have swollen and now about to burst….so I guess that is a sure sign that despite rain and winds and the occasional sunny spell summer is here.

  1. Hi,
Lovely photos, it is amazing how flowers always seem to brighten everything up, more so I think out in the woods. 🙂
