JULY and no change….it still rains

Mid- summer….July the 2nd and no change to what is becoming rather depressing weather, so any break in the weather, however brief was welcomed to see what was happening in the garden.

The Hosta was braving the cold and damp and starting to open, whilst on the paving Herb Robert was flourishing.  Herb Robert is of course a wild plant and this one has self seeded.  I know the keen gardeners would pull it out as a weed, but for me, well I believe that many weeds are just plants in the wrong place…for me this is just the right place. Long may it flower

There are still little corners that look as if the are just waiting for some sun to shine and at times it did!…….but overall the greenery in the garden is very lush

Our Geraniums, like many of our plants, are struggling to flower but this Geranium makes up for the lack of colourful blooms by displaying its boldly marked leaves.  This one is very special to us.  It has been saved by several generation within the family, each generation and each year, taking cuttings and protecting them through the winter.  Not sure exactly how old the original stock was but 125 years is a conservative estimate

But then the wind returned………….

…….and not long afterwards so did the rain.

I suppose Summer will come one day

2nd July

I should add a P.S. It may sound sad to complain about our weather when I know that elsewhere many are having to endure more extreme weather than ours. But complaining about the weaher is a “British” thing.

    1. After a dry winter we should be pleased of the rain….but being human we complain. It is wrong we should be thankful. But my best plan is for it to rain only at night ….say betweeln11pm and 6am…then back to sunshine. How’s that for a solution.

  2. Yes, I think that too – rain during the night then back to the sunshine! Amazing about your Geranium stock coming through your family over all that time. Incredible!

    1. It has become a bit of a task but one we keep dong. ….and before you think we are gardening fanatcs, we are not. It is just this plant hat has that family sentiment attached to it. As for rain the official forecast for our region says no rain to-day but there will be a continual drizzle…..not sure that isn’t rain!

  3. Beautiful flowers! I wish we would get some rain and relief from the heat, dryness and fires. This is the driest June in our area – no rain – and we even hit a record low humidity of 2%! Too many wildfires going on, which seems to be all I hear about on the news. Hopefully we end up ok, but we are at just as much risk as others in our state. Another large wildfire started just this afternoon.

    1. Must seem wrong for me to moan about our rain when others like you have other problems of concerm. I am also aware that other would see the amount of rain me have ‘enjoyed’ as nothing compared to their monsoon like conditions. One thing is for sure where wever you are on the globe the weather does seem to be hiting extremes for just about every region.
