Nice to be Home…..

It is always nice to travel and we certainly had a great break….but all good things have to come to an end, so it was with some regrets we headed for home.  The journey can be summed up by saying that the car could have done with a rudder and tiller rather than a steering wheel….as the motorway signs kept saying ‘Floods Ahead’….and there were.

But the sun actually came out to welcome us home.  The garden much to our surprise has survived the worst that the weather could throw at it…..Maple leaves glowed as they start there change to autumnal colours……..

There was some warmth in the afternoon sun and it soon dried off the garden enough to enjoy a short explore to see that all is well. I mentioned in an earlier post that Dahlia’s have not done well this year for us…..so we were very pleased to see that another bud had developed and burst adding more colour…….

The Cosmos were not to be out done and now a little past there best are still but on a brave show….

Before we went away we had begun to ponder the thought, that as it has been such a tops – turvy season for plants, if the Sedum would ever change colour to its September Red.  Well it hasn’t done so yet but has made a good start to the process.  Its full heads more speckled in colours than we expected…

But as I said….it is nice to be back home.  I just wonder what the post on the desk involves and how many e-mails need actioning….and of course how many bills will need paying.

  8. Isn’t that why we travel? To find out how nice it is back home…. Except for those bills waiting for us. Your photos from your garden are beautiful. Quite some colour, but then of course it is the season for strong colours. My favourite is probably the tender rose.

    1. very true…..as to colour, well over here we haven’t yet got the autumn colours. I have said before that it has been an odd year, oftern you cannot put a name to the climate/season it doesn’t fit with the more usual style. So we will just have to wait to see if we do get the colours we look forward to so much prior to winter and grey days arriving! Best wishes

  9. My faves are the dahlia and cosmos, simply beautiful. I love sedum! David, have you ever got up really close, with a macro lens; they are stunning little florets. Try it; I’d love to see the result. I like your new blog theme, especially the roller up top; seeing your images really large makes us appreciate their beauty even more. No more really small ones, please!! ;OD
