A New Year approaches so it is that time of year when the papers, magazines and T.V. are full of diet and exercise advice that they assume we ALL need. There is of course another favourite topic that again we All are supposed to address….that is the matter of making New Year Resolutions.
I have an intense dislike for the so called making of these ‘resolutions’, resolutions, that as far as I can judge, most folk don’t keep to for very long. But I do admit that I do have a maintain a particular habit at this time of year to tackle three specific tasks. So lets start…..
We have a saying
‘That you cannot see the wood……..![]()
……………For the trees’
So the first task is to clear all those small (and not so small) piles of papers and books that you tend to acquire on and around the desk, papers that were not important enough to action when received but important enough to save for another day…a day, a week, a month then a year…..until you forgot they were there. For the most part you I tend to find the trash can the most useful piece of equipment.
The second task takes a little longer and is perhaps more vital. I do try to keep my hard drives and back up drives in order, images, features, letters, invoices all in neat files. None the less I still have, for want of a better phrase, some loose ends on the hard drives that need proper homes. So I always spend time between Christmas and New Year doing just that. Yep, sometimes there is the odd surprise but mostly it helps to start my third task.
At this point I should say that the the third task is not really a task at all but the rather enjoyable task of planning the coming years trip locations and digging through the hard drives jogs the brain cells into overdrive.
But looking again at these images has ensured that Scotland will be top of the list for at least two trips this year…
e
EILEAN DONAN CASTLE, LOCH ALSH, WEST HIGHLANDS
DUNCANSBY HEAD, CAITHNESS
THE TORRIDONS, NORTH WEST HIGHLANDS
ACROSS THE MINCH TO ASSYNT FROM BADCALL BAY
CROMARTY HARBOUR, THE BLACK ISLE
UATH LOCHANS, GLEN FESHIE, CAIRNGORMS
The Mountains, Sea, Castles and Lochs of the Highlands and their coastline have a magical draw and no doubt we will see a few trees and no doubt some wood!
In the meantime its back to the clear up….I might be some time.
30th DECEMBER
Great advice.

I wouldn’t mind going to Scotland either. Or England. Happy new Year, David!

Loving your pictures, David! They are indeed incredibly sharp and colorful. As for people going out with their annual goals, I couldn’t agree more.
I think it’s more a need for attention than anything else?
Like the lady that proclaims that she will definitely quit smoking on new years eve?
Why ‘New Years Eve’ (2 weeks into the future)? Does she need to smoke the rest of the package first? If she’s realized that smoking is damaging to her health, why does she need to smoke the rest before quitting? Or has she already given in to the thought that she won’t succeed? If she really has decided to quit, what better time than just this very minute? I just shake my head to such proclamations. They are definitely not seriously motivated!

Aahh, Scotland, The Brave! I think I must have Scottish blood in me, somewhere; but, then, I do have Irish blood in me, and they came from somewhere in Scotland, or was it the Vikings…..well, you know! My mother often spoke of the Cairngorms and spoke of them in a misty voice. :O)
Happy New Year, David! I, too, haven’t bothered with new year’s resolutions for many years; I believe in not making promises I have no intentions of keeping! But, this intention I will keep, and that is that I will continue to visit your blog whilst you put up such interesting and beautiful photos and articles. Keep well, my online friend, and give your lovely dogs an extra bone, just for the hell of it! Cheers from Melbourne!

Thank you….and very best of wishes to you for 2013. I can well understand the ‘misty voice’ and I will also admit o shedding the odd tear on occasions where the weather, the scene, the whole ambiance was just SO fantastic….and that is something yo cannot capture in a camera.

I love the idea of starting to plan the year’s trips at this time. I love planning trips any time, actually, but what a wonderful way to spend this week before New Years…..much more fun than planning resolutions that will most assuredly be unkept.
Happy New Year David, to you and the family!

Thank you…best wishes for 2013 to you and yours. BUT planning is perhaps a little over the top as a description. Right now it is just a case of saying where we will go and that is the fun part….timing will come later
