After all the dull grey, dank and miserable days of late, it was quite a surprise to wake yesterday to find blue skies and sunshine. So with flask filled, sandwiches packed in the Rucksack Buster and I headed of to one of our Derbyshire Dales to stretch our legs. Nor were we disappointed the sun stayed with us all day and just for once it was warm.
Trouble is that when you pinch a day out of your work schedule it does mean that you have to catch up afterwards……which means only one image from yesterday to show at the moment.
Monsal Dale with the River Wye was the start of the days exploration and as you can see no shortage of water in the river.
The River Wye is a beautiful river but as you can see man has been busy over the years trying to tame and control it and like many of the Derbyshire Dales it has endured a colourful history…. so with luck I will bring you some of the background in the next post.

And there’s green in the grass and on the twigs as well–how far away can spring be? Probably best not to ask, I suppose. Still, one wonders. How refreshing!

Better leave such impulse activities to us pensioners, David 🙂

True….but most of the retired folk we know now have diaries fuller than when they were at work! Many wondering just how they once managed to find the time to go to work.

We don’t ever catch up, but lag steadily further behind. And that’s what our government wants us to do. In fact it seems they’d wish us to hurry up down to the cementary.
It’s getting increasingly expensive to keep us alive, you see.

Good morning, you all. It’s so nice to see the sunshine. Even if it’s pretty far away. The Netherlands are dull and grey and a wee bit hunid. Not at all pleasant and not very goog for aching joints. Politically, we are in the same boat as the U.K., thanks to Cameron and our Mark Rutte. Another 4,3 billion Euro’s in cuts in 2014. It’s been literally said here in 2011 bu a tory in our House of Commons (Second Chamber) that old and sick people would be better of dead. It brought me visions of an SF movie: Soylent Green. Very disturbingly, this morning we heard that our foundation for Euthanasia has a waitinglist for 4 months. 700 people came in the past 6 months. Our tory government says that when you do not pay income tax you are not productive. Hence, you will cost society money. I am trying to to think too much about it and continue helping people with problems with the sociale housing landlord but also in other fields. By the way, I am a Spring Chicken according to my second mum in Hunmanby, East Riding. I am 63 and in July I will be 64. Not yet an elderly woman but I’m getting there… Have a wonderful weekend without thinking about the problems our governments throw at us. Best wishes, Lydia

I know how you feel and feel much the same about they way we have suddenly changed our attitude to those either less able, less secure and most vulnerable. It is as if there is form of social cleansing taking place. For me it is the young ones that I have the most concern for in truth I fear they have less real opportunity than I had….it was in no way easy but the opportunity was there. Best wishes and keep logging in, I will try to lift your spirits.
