Brighter Start for the Day…..but for how long?

A bright start to the day, not exactly sunny but far better than the previous week of dull grey and wet days.  So we headed of for a walk through some different woodland for a change.   The early morning sky did have a hint of promise silhouetting the Oak and Birch in the dawn glow…..

This ancient Oak had been pollarded for many years till it was left in peace to go its own way to form, a squat, but broad Oak with drooping branches.

Most of the Oaks have grown to maturity in their own ways.  Most, like this one have had to withstand the ravages of wind and weather, to survive putting down mammoth roots structures and literally clinging  onto what ever footing they can find…..

One of the beauties of this woodland walk is the variety of textures the various trees display upon their trunks.  That and the fallen branches and fungi add a dimension for anyone out to explore the woods on what is a bitterly cold ‘spring’ morning….Sweet Chestnut, Horse Chestnut and Beech all display different ‘touch me’ characteristics…..

The weather does exactly as it pleases and whilst we may complain at times about its vagaries and extremes perhaps we should not complain and be rather pleased that man has not yet found ways to manipulate nature!  Well not the weather anyway……but with livestock it is a very different situation.  Here on a nearby National Trust Property they now time Lambing, not for when it is easier or safer, not even for farming commerce reasons… but for Tourism and as Visitor attraction.  Here they have just set up the lambing tents in time for the Easter School Holidays and Bank Holiday weekend…..a nice way to attract folk out when the weather does its best to discourage!

BUT NOW MUCH MORE SERIOUS MATTERS

……the Gloves!

Let me start by saying that I have been stumbling across dropped gloves all winter…..nor I should add am I seeking them out, they find me.  Nor do I ‘arrange’ them, the image you see is the glove as found.  Finders of gloves tend to pick them up and place/display them by the pathway, obviously in the hope that the owner may just head back looking for it and reuniting it with its pair partnerI.

Once again we discover, yes another left handed glove, left on the gate handle.  So two questions _ 1.  Will it find its way home? and 2. WHY a left glove again?

I will keep you posted……
