As weekends go it hasn’t been that bad a mix of rain, which at times was heavy, but also bright hot sunshine….much more akin to April than June.
But once the sun reached the Buttercup Meadows they positively glowed and the moisture has also done them a world of good….
The air was heavy with pollens from the herbs, grasses and wildflowers. We still miss the Bees that should be so busy at this time of year but at least the smaller insects were burying deep in to the meadows, gorging whilst they can but also hiding from the birds. Nor will it be long before the farmer cuts the meadows to add to his hay crop….
In the shelter of the hedge the wildflowers and herbs are much richer both in variety and there vitality forming a rich broad border to the meadows, full of field vowel and mice and very much under the watchful eye of a perching Kestrel.
We are also keeping a watchful eye on these Ash Trees, as you may know a disease called Ash Dieback is starting to devastate our native Ash….so far there trees look healthy, we just hope they stay that way.
