A cold winters day near Grassington in Wharfedale at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Whilst it looks bleak, so far this winter, there has been lots of rain but very little frost or snow. That situation cannot last for ever and real winter is bound to descend. So looking forward positively to 2014 ……… we know that “It will soon be Spring”.

Your definition of “soon” is obviously rather different from mine. A brief warm spell, at this time of the year, does not the advent of reliable warm weather portend, in my experience. That is most certainly 4-5 months away. Nevertheless, let us savor what respites from the winter’s chill the Fates may provide, and be secure in the knowledge that spring will indeed come–after all, she always has before, hasn’t she? Happy New Year, David!

Soon…is hope rather than immediate expectation! Bu perhaps the question should be ‘what shape’ will spring take this year. Last year ours didn’t arrive but after many record wet and cold months suddenly ‘happened’ over one week at the start of summer when there was a growth explosion. So we will see what 2014 brings…..the only certainty is that w will get what we get given! So best enjoy….all the very best
