A Misty Start…. but at least some sun for a welcome change

A misty, but sunny start to this December day….  even though I had an early start, by the time I reached the Cromford Canal that mist had started to rise. Not that the mist completely disappeared, it just rose and formed a thin cloud layer above the tree level.  Being the day following the solstice the sun never climbed that high to reach the valley floor.  Still not a bad day for a canalside walk…. and after the recent rains it was just great to have a dry winter walk.

The building in the images above is of industrial heritage importance.  It is one of the first of the Railway buildings on the High Peak Railway, one of the earliest railways.  It is here that the Railway formed a link with the canal.

Nor was I alone, being joined by a curious family of Mute Swans…. they seemed to want the company.

Over the day the cloud once again won out….. so no clear sky this evening,  once again we missed the Christmas Star…. maybe tomorrow

No Surprise…. Rain Again

_DSF1412qqq copy

Rain once again……  also rather heavy, and set in for the day.

It does seem to be a repetitive pattern.  Several days of rain, one day of sunshine, then back to a period of rain once more.  So its best not to be ungrateful for yesterday blue sky and warm sunshine.

Whatever the weather you are enjoying……..

Daybreak…. and a Day that lived up-to its promise

What a joy to see a sunny dawn….nor was it short lived,  the day just got better.  Makes a change from the recent run of wet weather…..  mind you it has left a legacy.  All that moisture created a thin low lying mist that lingered for much of the morning.

Autumn has now long gone and the Trees are now just skeletons…..  stark and dramatic against todays blue sky.  Just like all the season early winter brings its own charms …..  when its not raining that is!  I guess it will not be long before these skeletons will be draped with frost and maybe snow, creating another seasonal picture. It was indeed a day to get out and enjoy the fresh air, we didn’t venture far-afield.  There are several Parks near to us, so a choice of local venues is a bonus.  So join us on this mornings walk round Darley Park….  it is only a mile from the City Centre but you could be many miles way…

After the rains of recent weeks, the River Derwent that flows  through the Park, is running rather high.

The Weeping Willow weeps as the branches brush the surface of the Derwent.

The River may be running high, thankfully not as high as this time last year.  It was the start of floods, floods that last to March.  There is more rain forecast but lets hope that we don’t get a repeat of last winter.

We can do little to influence the weather we ‘enjoy’.  We can all do something in these trouble times…..

Not a Bad End to the First Day of Winter

The first day of winter didn’t disappoint.   Sunshine from dawn till dusk.  Sadly other duties prevented me from taking advantage of the weather until late afternoon.

There is the saying “Better Late than Never”…..  So being able to catch the last of the day was a bonus.  An night sky was starting to  creep over the horizon, so what the weather is going to do tomorrow is anyone guess.  Nor did we get a startling sunset….  but  after all is said and done…. still not a bad end to the day

A  calm and tranquil end to December 1st.

There is a Blue Sky up there …. somewhere !

The Old Furlong Oak

As the sun rose this morning down came the fog…well it was a mist at first then became much thicker. If you looked straight up you could see blue sky but look to the horizon and it was lost to view.

What a change from yesterday… a very different feel as you can see…

Despite the foggy conditions it was still a great morning to be out.  Interesting to see familiar locations looking very different as the fog swirled around, the low winter sun casting its shadows…

It was a constantly change scene, the fog first lifting and then thickening again… but that blue sky was still up there…

December…but very much a November weather day
