Aquilegia ……….the First of this Spring

Aqua-2As the seasons progress Spring brings out new surprises everyday.  Today it is our first Aquilegia.  In our garden we tend to judge it as the first of the garden flowers to bloom after the earlier Spring bulbs, such as Crocus, Daffs, Tulips and of course Bluebells…a marker that we are heading to early summer . Many of our gardener friends rather frown upon this humble plant….mainly because it does self seed and spring up ‘at will’ spoiling the ordered display.  We always look forward to the first flowers, they tend to be the smallest but just as delicate and pretty as the larger blooms that follow.

  1. One of my favourite flowers! We have lots in our garden – they seem to grow anywhere and everywhere, even where you don’t want them, like in the cracks of the path! Lovely photo.

  2. It does have a definite charm, don’t get me wrong! 🙂 It’s more not wanting to tread on them when they’re small and growing that makes it a downside…
