FLIPPANT FRIDAY….Happy Christmas

Christmas

It does seem as if every shop you go into, however small, has decided it is time for Christmas. So can I remind you that there are only 68 days to go……lets have a collective groan and then be the first to wish everyone a Happy Christmas.

  1. Groan overhere as well. Worse groan, as we have also our Saint Nicholas feast on the 5th of December. Since about 2 years there is a nationwide row going on about Saint’s helper: Black Peter. Considered racist by some black and a few people with another skin colour including white. It’s a feast for kids. But grown ups spoil it. Having said this – bad enough though – we find all the sweets in the supermarkets since August! And X’mas stuff since early October. I refuse to even look at them. It’s Autumn with wonderful colouring of the trees and shrubs, the great smell of plant decay (yes honestly! 😀 ) . But sofar I could do without having to switch on the heating system. That will most likely change next week. The angry face of Autumn is on its way… Mittens en gloves and warm coats again! 🙂

  2. In Canada we have a Thanksgiving holiday on the second Monday in October. Hallowe’en (October 31) has become a very big deal with decorated houses, parties, and costumes worn to work or on the street. Both of these tend to keep the commercial Christmas at bay until at least November!

    1. We do too….Halloween that is…..but it seems to lack the intensity it started with and Christmas still looms supreme! I can still remember when Christmas started on Christmas Eve (now that gives my age away)
