Mixed Feelings…..

Naunton-Sundials

Tonight….(at 2.00am on the 26th October to be precise), we in the U.K. have to put our clocks back 1 hour.

Yes, British Summer Time is over for another year, we will once again be running on Greenwich Mean Time (Real Time). So it is with very mixed feelings that we head into the darker, longer nights of the winter…..and we haven’t even had Autumn proper yet! True it will be cosy of an evening, curtains drawn, heating and lights on and with it that reluctance to go out of an evening except for something special. But it is another milestone in our lives, another marker that time does not stand still for anyone. It is little comfort to say that on the 29th March 2015 we can put our clocks forward an hour and again enjoy British Summer Time…we have yet to see what the winter has in store for us. Brrrr!

The Dual Sundial and Moon clock above can be found on the side of the Church Tower at Naunton, in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire

  1. Like you, I always get a little sad when Daylight Savings Time ends in the U.S. But there are joys to be found in winter too. Such a dilemma.

    1. At first it is nice to cosy up, shut out the night and enjoy whatever your pleasure…catch upon some reading, sort out all those letters I should write to friends (even think about Christmas)…..but after awhile that lack of light and the ability to laze outdoors of an evening starts to be a drag. Still nothing we can do about it…just grit our teeth and plan for next spring and the summer to come.

  2. For just this week the time difference between you and we in Maritime Canada is just three hours, then we go back to suppers in the dark and the cat waking us an hour earlier. Love the photo.
