Last night was the coldest night of the Winter.
-8C which for us is darned cold (I know others have much worse…but it was cold enough for us). So those Birds that featured in yesterdays blog had got it right…..no wonder they were gorging on the seeds.
Cold as it was we had no snow just a heavy frost the hung to the surface of the Frozen Lake
The Island Allestree Lake.
No Skating, the Ice is too thin.
Although our Lake was frozen, Derbyshire’s River Derwent continued to flow deep, slow and dark acting like a mirror to the winter trees along the banks…

Temperatures only rose to 2c at the highest and in places remained below freezing. So just to prove that winter still has a sting in its February tail, just a few miles further north on the moors above Hathersage, in Derbyshire’s Peak District, the snow made its presence felt…a different scene altogether…..
Below Stanage, Peak District
The white snow providing a great contrast to the cleat ice blue of the sky……but that clear sky remains so tonight is likely to be as cold if not colder.

It may be cold but the light and the vibrant color say otherwise! Except for that last one..that does look a bit chilly.:) I love the white snow with the lovely blue background!

It has been a strange winter ….by now the colours should be subdued by the ravages of frosts and snow but so far they don’t appear to have lost much of the autumn colours.
