” I Pray You Be Not Queen of Hearts, But My Hearts Queen”
As its Valentines Day…here is one to share.
The illustration above is from my collection of Victorian Greetings Cards. The date is not accurate but best guess is late 1800’s and was published by Raphael Tuck and Sons, one of the pioneer publishing companies and early colour printers.
Unlike most of todays Greeting Cards , these early Victorian cards were simple flat cards. They also pushed the boundaries of colour print in its early years of mass publishing using delicate but simple illustrations.
