Weekly Photo Challenge – Rule of Thirds (#2)

A Different Take on Thirds,,,,

This Weeks Photo Challenge- Rule of Thirds ( https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/02/27/rule-of-thirds/ )

Melbourne-Church

The Norman Church at Melbourne, Derbyshire

You could describe the above image as a traditional ‘walk-through’ shot…straight down the middle.  But I would suggest that it is also a good illustration of a wider interpretation of the ‘Rule of Thirds’.

The eye is taken to the central feature of Alter and Window, not just by way of the central aisle, but by placing weight on the left hand vertical third, the right hand vertical plain  and the top horizontal plain.

  1. Brilliant image I am impressed on my phone so can’t wait to see it on the computer – shot of 2015 so far David – rules should be guidelines as rules need to be broken to fully explore creativity – well that’s my thinking anyhow. Anyway my eyes are stinging as I am lying in my bed in the dark typing on my phone keyboard. So I will sleep se more and get typing later – definitely shot of 2015 -! Am sure the church would love the shot.

  2. Super photo David. Thanks also for the tip. You know what? I was already experimenting with that when I am shooting sunsets from my window (after I open it, of course). I have a couple of try outs with the sun left high and low and dito on the right. Avoiding the centre. It needs improving but I know I’ll get there in the end.:)
