May 1st, a new month and one that should reveal all the colours that have been trying so hard to grace our countryside and gardens this last month.
Temperatures have been steadily rising….but we have also had a cold north wind blowing down from the Artic regions. So this northern edge to our woods is still much in the grips of winter, buds just starting to show but a very different scene to that on the sunnier side…..no doubt they will catch up, but in there own good time!

The difference from one side of the wood to the other is dramatic but also fantastic to witness. But here’s hoping that the real spring is here.

Thank you….it did feel much warmer than it looks.

What a contrast. It looks so steely gray with few, if any, warm overtones. Surely it won’t be long now.

To surprise you a bit.. my dear friend in Hunmanby (that I call my second mum 🙂 ) loves bare trees. She thinks the bare bones of trees are a thing of extreme beauty. And see them disappear behind green leaves is not really a pleasure. She paints miniatures. From photo’s or postcards and she chooses winter scenes every time. I have now a tiny little one of a lovely pub and a slightly bigger one of Runswick Bay. Alas… green foliage at the bottom and on the plateau accross the bay. But a lovely moon crest shaped golden beach.

It doesn’t surprise me…..though I love autumn I get a thrill once those leaves drop and the skeleton’s grace the horizons
