Is this May ?…..
The weather still conceives to deceive us all. In truth it has been like that from Autumn through Winter and now through the Spring. Not sure but there does seem to be, if not a seismic shift, a definite slip and widening within the seasons. This Spring we have enjoyed record highs in the temperatures, we have also had torrential rains and swept by severe winds…..and if that is not enough temperatures have fallen to below average.
This has had noticeable effect of the woods and plants. Bluebells were reluctant to flower, when they did they present some lovely carpets of blue. Then they started to fall back and we thought it was time to say ‘goodbye’ till next Spring but they have had other ideas and shown in places a last minute revival. The Beech Trees buds were also at first reluctant to burst but now they drench the branches with their unique spring green leaf. Slowly the woodland shadow deepens with the woodland canopy now offering shade, shelter and secure camouflage for the nesting birds.

It seems that you’ve had the same experiences as everone else: The same weather as always, only much more of it in a shorter period of time? And it has slowly become like that over the last 10 years; something that’s likely to continue for the next 30-40 years ahead. Adapt as best you can!

I am doing my best….I have held a believe for some years now (not based upon science but observation) that the seasons move backwards each year by about 2 weeks…each season has its start just that little later each year and the edges blur as the environment tries to adapt……and yes we have to adapt as best we can.

That is a strange observation, David! I have made a similar observation but have concluded a bitt diffreren to you:
Yes the winter used to arrive late october some decades back. This year it arrived mid-January!
But the spring that used to arrive early May have started to arrive late February over the last years.
Which gives us a winter that last barely two months compared to 5.5 months only a decade ago.
And I really don’t mind all that much . . . 🙂

Beautiful shot. Similar experience with the weather – Timing is off and there are extreme jumps and fall backs. Last winter seemed like the snow would never end – this one almost below amount of snow, but very cold. Now spring dragged its heels and then did an imitation of summer for about a week. No predictable pattern in seasonal change.
Keep taking photos & sharing. 🙂

Apart from one severe (for us in middle England) winter we do seem to be gradually slipping to a later start for the season. True there are those plants, indicators that are doing their best to stick to the master plan but they are few, Well that is my experience and as I said in another comment far from scientific.

The clarity in your photos is breathtaking. What camera do you use. I’m a rank amateur but am looking for a new reasonably priced small camera that is simple to use.

I use a Nikon DSLR Df or D800. But also a pocket compact Nikon Coolpix P7100 and it produces many of the blog images.

Oh thank you! I will look at the compact Nikon as a DSLR seems too complex for me.
