Dawn in Bluebell wood….
Although the sun is strong today, quite a treat after all the mediocre weather of late, it now has the struggle to cut through the new spring canopy of leaves that cast long shadows and a yellow filter across the the woodland floor. This spring still conspires to confuse with plants and trees either flowering early or later than what we would consider the norm. Bluebells are a great example…..we usually have a sudden spring explosion of blue across the woodland glades, but this year it was a spasmodic start….the up side is that weeks later we are still enjoying areas where they continue to grace us with the delicate flower heads…..
But for the greater part the rest of the spring woodland understore of fern and bramble is now starting to swallow the Bluebells….
Not all Bluebells are Blue… there are the very occasional White variety (escapes I suspect from gardens).
But the really good news of the morning is that I can report that the Oak trees are now in full leaf. ……
Now why is that important. Well if you belief in he old Country Folklore is it an indicator as to the weather we can expect for this coming summer….for a full explanation click my link my April posting:- https://davidoakesimages.wordpress.com/2015/04/07/it-could-be-bad-news/
The Ash that started so well has yet to reach anything like full leaf.
As the sun rises high the shadows on the woods do get longer and the glades darker and a very different canopy….once spring really starts it moves like an express train….
