I find it very sad…….
I am not a sailor, nor in anyway nautically inclined, but for some reason the sight of an old boat, high and dry, rotting where it is now ‘moored’ seems so sad. Gone are the days of battling the tides and winds.
Along this stretch of estuary (once a busy port) are numerous old boats…..most I suspect have been brought here by an owner, keen to restore and rebuild a little bit of waterways history, a challenge now perhaps beyond their skills or depth of their pocket.
Despite the sadness there is also something a touch romantic about the spot.

On a windy day the strange atmosphere about the place does seem to be heightened…somehow exciting and dangerous!

Maybe it’s the mariners that once sailed these ships?

Boats out of water make it seem as though the planets are out of alignment. Beautiful photography.

It can very much seem that way

Poignant. Surely a Dickens story in there! Regards Thom.

There is one story I can tell. One boat, high and dry above the waterline was providing a ramshackled home for its owner while he so called refurbished it. One night he was woken by his dog barking and tugging at his bed….the ship had caught fire. He and the dog were both lucky to escape, next day all that remained was the metal engine block, prop-shaft and steering gear, the rest ashes.
