Oxford….the City of Universities ……..
Oxford…..a City of Gleaming Spires, Towers, Domes, Stone Carvings, Gargoyles, Old Buildings, narrow Street, open spaces and of course the University. Unlike most Universities Oxford is not one big campus but a great many Colleges spread across the city with famous names such as Magdalen, Merton, Brasenose, Corpus Christi and Oriel to mention just a few.
Then we have the Museums, Art Galleries and Libraries, Bookshops and quirky shops. Then Β we have people…lots of them crowding the streets that also have to cope with to-days traffic and then of course in the summer months a huge influx of Tourists. Students and locals use bikes, they are everywhere….but make no mistake Oxford is a centre of Education and Business,it is also a vibrant and fun City that genuinely appears to welcome all…..but it is busy.
Walking is the best way to explore all the narrow streets and College Greens and Courtyards…but perhaps the best way to start is to join one of the circular Open Top Bus Tours of the City. Not only do you see Oxford from a a different perspective but it also acts as a great way to orientate yourself…..and the optional on-board commentary will pack your head full of stories both ancient and modern. So here is a whistle-stop tour just for you.
So that is to-days tour….but on Thursday you can join me on a tour of one of Oxfords Gems, The Botanical Gardens.

Beautiful pics, David! I have only been to Oxford once, a long time ago. Such a mellow feeling there. I feel like listening to the ‘Morse’ theme now! π

I got the same feeling… here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKsmF3DNYVM
Feeling a bit sad for obvious reasons when I see the actor again. Although I enjoy Lewis, it’s not Morse… One of the reactions says it all:
Haunted man was Morse ! Brillant and amazing was John Thaw !! by Pascal Cabon.

Thank you! Love the link. I also like Emma Johnson’s version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9AJx5_6GtI John Thaw was brilliant, you are right – he was made for the role. But I also love the ‘prequel’ series, ‘Endeavour’, with Shaun Evans.

What I could never understand was just how relaxed the scenes felt, none of the usual Oxford hustles (-:

In the past I went to Oxford, for a day, but I stayed for weekend too. Memories came back now π We were all students and I remember on a rainy day we waited for a long time to enter one of famous vegetarian restaurant in there… But it was worthy to wait. And of course beautiful city and Oxford means a lot. Thank you dear David, love, nia

Another cracking set David – I know Oxford very well and have visited several times – the Sheldonian is an amazing building but difficult to capture due to the close proximity of other buildings.
